Why Internet Marketing And Search Engine Optimization?

In a nutshell, to generate leads and prospects for your business but allow me to tell a quick story to illustrate how I was able to utilize the internet to get a new business off the ground with no marketing budget and no sales people.

Several years ago I found myself in a rough business situation where it was costing me on average about $200-$300 to generate leads and prospects for my business. While the margins in this industry were and are great they weren’t large enough to sustain such a high customer acquisition cost so within my first year of business I found myself out of money (due to a partner backing out) and on the verge of shutting down my business.

Rather then shut it all down I decided to move forward and try internet marketing as a form of media to get the word out about my products (That and cold-calling and I’m pretty sure you know how cold-calling went). I bought a domain for $10 and paid for some hosting and had a website built for me for a few hundred bucks and I was up and running… or so I thought.

Now any of you that have a website probably know what I’m talking about. You design a beautiful website, you put it up on the internet but nobody shows up.

That’s when I discovered how to generate leads and prospects for my products for virtually nothing using search engine optimization.

What Is Search Engine Optimization

When somebody does a search on a major search engine like Google, Yahoo or Bing they are immediately shown two types of results: paid results and what are referred to as “organic” results.

Now the paid results are pretty self explanatory. Basically you pay to show your ad and whenever somebody clicks on your ad and goes through to your website you pay the predetermined price. This is known as pay-per-click and the unfortunate thing with pay-per-click paid results is that the more competitive your industry is the more you will pay for each click.

Now for the organic results each search engine has a mathematical algorithm that it uses to rank all of the websites that come up as matches for the search term that was entered on the search engine inquiry. Obviously the function of the search engine here is to produce results that are the most likely to answer the searchers request. To provide relevant results and information basically.

And that’s where I come in.

Now nobody can tell you they know exactly how an algorithm for a particular search engine works (unless they engineered it) because the big search engines make changes to their algorithms all the time but through years of experience and by reverse engineering results webmasters through the years have developed their own formulas for optimizing  websites for better rankings and better placements in the search engines.

I’ve been building websites and optimizing them for the search engines since 2004 and I can show and prove to you that I own websites that I have built and designed that rank on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing for keywords and phrases of my choosing.

What Is A Top Ranking On Google Worth?

What you have to understand here is that the traffic your website will be getting is ultra targeted. These are people that are doing a search for whatever service or product you sell so you know they’re interested. So going back to my original example from my brick-and-mortar business I was paying about $200-$300 per lead using direct marketing.

When I was finally able to get my website to the #1 ranking in Google I was generating on average about 30 leads a month online. So the value to me was about $7,500 per month if we average out the cost per lead to $250.

Not bad right?
